The difference between DC charging pile and AC charging pile

1. What is a charging pile?

The function of a charging pile is similar to that of a gas pump in a gas station. It can be fixed on the ground or on the wall and installed in public buildings (public buildings, shopping malls, public parking lots, etc.) and residential parking lots or charging stations. It can charge various types of electric vehicles according to different voltage levels. The input end of the charging pile is directly connected to the AC power grid, and the output end is equipped with a charging plug for charging electric vehicles.
Charging piles are currently divided into AC charging piles and DC charging piles. The AC pile outputs single-phase/three-phase AC power and converts it into DC power through an on-board charger to charge the on-board battery. The power is generally small (7kw, 22kw, 40kw, etc.), and the charging speed is generally slow, so it is generally installed in community parking lots and other places.
DC charging piles (or non-on-board chargers) directly output DC power to charge the on-board battery. The power is large (60kw, 120kw, 200kw or even higher), and the charging speed is fast, so they are generally installed in charging stations next to highways.
So how do you tell whether a pile is a DC pile or an AC pile from its appearance?
Generally speaking, DC charging piles are relatively sturdy (because there are a certain number of AC-DC power modules inside, the higher the power, the more modules, and the larger the pile), while AC charging piles are relatively petite. A more obvious difference is that their plugs (charging lines) are different, DC charging piles have 9-wire plugs, while AC charging piles have 7-wire plugs.

2. Charging circuit of DC charging pile

The output of DC charging pile consists of 9 wires, namely:

DC power supply line: DC+, DC-;

Equipment ground wire: PE;

Charging communication line: S+, S-;

Charging connection confirmation line: CC1, CC2;

Low voltage auxiliary power supply line: A+, A-.

DC charging pile charges electric vehicles through these 9 wires. We will introduce the detailed charging process in subsequent articles.

3. Charging circuit of AC charging pile

The DC charging pile output consists of 9 wires, namely:

DC power supply line: DC+, DC-;

Equipment ground: PE;

Charging communication line: S+, S-;

Charging connection confirmation line: CC1, CC2;

Low-voltage auxiliary power supply line: A+, A-.

DC charging piles charge electric vehicles through these 9 wires. We will introduce the detailed charging process in subsequent articles. Energy saving for all • Healthy travel, focusing on the development of charging pile charging software. Collect charging pile products from many charging pile companies on the market, analyze charging communication protocols, and build a TCP platform. After the update and iteration of multiple versions such as official accounts, mini programs, and APPs, a complete software system for front-end display and back-end management has been formed.
