Why is an electric vehicle battery DC?

This is to understand what is direct current and what is alternating current.

"Direct Current" (DC), also known as "constant current", constant current is a type of direct current, which is a direct current that does not change in size and direction.

Alternating current refers to the current whose direction changes periodically over time, with an average current of zero in a cycle. Unlike direct current, which changes its direction over time, direct current does not change periodically.

The batteries used in our electric vehicles are chemical batteries, and the voltage of the chemical battery is determined by the potential difference between the positive and negative electrode materials. After the voltage of the chemical battery is fully charged, the voltage will gradually decrease during subsequent use, but the direction of the positive and negative electrode materials will not change, so the voltage direction will not change. As a result, the output current in an electric vehicle decreases, but the direction of the voltage does not change. According to the definition of alternating current, it can be judged that the battery of an electric vehicle does not meet the definition of alternating current.
